CROTON CEMETERY
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP – SECTION 20
LEE COUNTY, IOWA
This Cemetery is one of the oldest in Iowa.Croton is located on the Des Moines River which was the Pathway for early explorers into Iowa.Lewis and Clark had to come close to Croton in 1804 and Fremont came up the river to about Farmington.Jack London came by Croton in 1894 as a member of Kelly's Army as they floated to St.Louis on their way to Washington D.C. to protest the economic conditions of the country.One of 44 Revolutionary Soldiers buried in Iowa is Amos Glover buried at Croton Cemetery.
Croton Cemetery is approximately ¾ mile out of Croton on 255th St. and is on the south side of the road.
